JEWELRY & BUCKLE CARE

How do I care for my sterling silver jewelry?

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time, and we think a little patina adds character! If you prefer a brighter finish, gently polish your jewelry with a Sunshine® Polishing Cloth. Avoid liquid jewelry cleaners, solvents, and steam cleaners, as they can damage the silver and natural stones.

Keep your jewelry dry. Remove it before showering, swimming, washing your hands, or applying hand sanitizer, lotions, perfumes, or oils. Moisture and chemicals can loosen or damage natural stones.

Some pieces have wood shavings beneath the stones as part of the setting process. When exposed to moisture, the wood can swell and put pressure on the stones or cause them to loosen. These pieces should be kept especially dry.

Natural stones can crack or break if dropped or struck, so treat your jewelry with care and store it somewhere clean and dry when it isn't being worn.

Can I get my jewelry wet?

No—we recommend keeping your jewelry completely dry. Water, hand sanitizer, lotions, oils, and other liquid products can affect stone settings and may cause stones to loosen.

Some traditionally made Native American pieces use sawdust or wood shavings beneath the stones as part of the setting process. When exposed to moisture, this material can swell and potentially loosen or damage the stones.

How do I care for my buckle?

Our buckles are patinaed and finished with a protective wax coating to help prevent rust and give each buckle its unique character. Because they are made from steel, a little maintenance goes a long way.

Keep your buckle as dry as possible and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture. If surface rust appears, gently remove it with fine steel wool and apply a light coat of oil to the exposed steel to help prevent future rust.

Headstall buckles need a little extra love. They’re exposed to sweat, dirt, moisture, and the elements more often, so wipe them down after use and oil, oil, oil! Regularly applying a light coat of oil will help protect the steel and prevent rust.

PRODUCTS & CUSTOM ORDERS

Do you take custom orders?

Yes! We accept custom orders on a limited basis, depending on the item, materials, and our current workload. If you have something in mind, please reach out through our Contact page or social media to discuss your idea and current availability.

Please keep in mind that custom pieces may require additional processing time, and availability of stones and materials can vary.

What does “Native Made” mean?

“Native Made” refers to pieces handcrafted by Native American artists and silversmiths. Each piece reflects the individual maker’s craftsmanship, style, and techniques.

When the information is available, we include the artist’s name in the product description. Many of these pieces are handmade using sterling silver and natural stones, making each one unique.

Is all of your jewelry Native American made?

No. Double J Leather & Silver carries a mix of Native American-made jewelry, Double J-made pieces, and other carefully selected jewelry.

Anything stamped “JJ” was made by Double J. Jordan handcrafts all Double J buckles and other pieces, while her mom occasionally creates pieces in her free time and her sister enjoys stringing beads. The maker will always be listed in the product description so you know who created your piece.

Are your stones genuine?

Absolutely! We only use genuine stones. From turquoise and variscite to spiny oyster, conch, and more, every stone is the real deal.

For our Double J made pieces, each stone is hand picked and sourced from New Mexico before being turned into something special.

Because our stones are natural, no two are exactly alike. Color, matrix, shape, and pattern will vary from stone to stone and that’s exactly what we love about them. 🤍

Will a sold-out item be restocked?

Maybe! A lot of our pieces are one of a kind, especially those featuring natural stones, so we can’t always get the exact same piece again.

Some styles may be restocked or recreated with a similar stone, but no two will ever be exactly alike. If you missed something you loved, reach out to us! We’re always happy to let you know if we can find or make something similar.
